Once every few years I get an email so great & so exciting that I find it hard to sleep for a few days. They usually include the words "getting married", "destination wedding", "are you available?", & "what would it cost". Michelle's initial inquiry email of June of 2015 was one of those types of emails. She started it out with, "Hello Tamara, I am interested in learning more about booking you for my wedding in Nicaragua on Jan. 20, 2016." I didn't even need to read the rest of the email. My answer was YES YES YES. And so began my Nicaragua travel planning, and my friendship with Michelle & Walter. Michelle and Walter's love story is one that truly spans the globe; Canadian Michelle, and Dutch Walter met in Panama while backpacking Central America. They then travelled to Nicaragua's San Juan Del Sur together, and fell in love. And so years later, as they were planning their wedding, it only made sense that they would would choose San Juan to host the big event.
Walter's family & friends travelled in from Europe (The Netherlands, mainly) and Michelle's family and friends travelled in from Canada (BC & Alberta, mainly) and they all met in Nicaragua-- where it all began. The couple rented a gorgeous villa to host the event, and worked closely with a local event planner to organize all the necessary party & decor rentals. They exchanged the most darling heart-felt vows on Casa Del Sol's sweeping patio, with panoramic Pacific Ocean views. Afterwards, guests were treated to a leisuring cocktail hour (the flor de cana was flowing!) while the happy couple snuck off to downtown San Juan Del Sur for portraits with yours-truly. We all met up later at La Cerveceria for dinner, drinks, and dancing well into the night. I would like to thank Walter and Michelle from the very bottom of my heart for inviting me along on this grand adventure. I likely would have never set foot in Nicaragua had it not been for you guys, and I am so thankful for the experience, the memories, and for your friendship. |
