"We're not having a typical wedding. It'll be about 20 people total and we're taking a helicopter up to the top of a mountain". That was the part of the email that I received from Gabrielle last summer, and by the time I finished reading the words "top of a mountain", I knew that I needed to book this wedding! Guests met at Nelson's High Terrain Helicopters, where they were shuttled up to the top of near-by Mount Peters, in groups of 3 or 4. I was on one of the first flights up, and as I stepped out of the helicopter and took my first look around, it took everything I had not to lose my footing entirely-- the setting was gorgeous. Jaw-dropping-knee-bucklingly gorgeous. It was the sort of setting that takes the words right out of your mouth, and replaces them with tears in your eyes. At the top of Mount Peters on that sunny, clear day, we felt on top of the world. The Selkirk Mountains rolled on seemingly endlessly beneath us, fat bumble bees buzzed busily in the wildflowers, and a soft summer wind blew delicately through our hair. Nearby the flutist was warming up, playing a sweet rendition of "What a Wonderful World", and we all stood there, dumbfounded & speechless. The beautiful bride, Gabrielle, was the last to arrive. As her helicopter landed guests took their positions. She existed the helicopter, with her gorgeous blue hair & lace gown billowing dramatically around her. Taking her father's arm, she waited to join her handsome groom who was eagerly waiting just 30 feet away. Their ceremony was short and sweet, with the couple exchanging their own personalized vows. As they embraced for their very first kiss as husband-and-wife their guests erupted into applause and cheers, which I am sure could be heard for miles. I was with Gabrielle & Eric for just their ceremony, and an hour of portraits following the ceremony that went much to quickly. We did not need to venture far from the ceremony site to find the most perfect mountain top photo-ops. This wedding will certainly go down as one of the most memorable that I have ever shot. I want to thank Gabrielle and Eric from the bottom of my heart for inviting me along, and for trusting me with us a once-in-a-life-time event. I hope I did your magical day, and incredible venue justice. These images are protected under international copyright law and are the exclusive property of www.wanderlustphotography.ca.
