Danika and Troy are the sort of couple who brighten up a room when they enter it. They radiate charisma and charm, and when you meet them, you instantly want them to be your friend. Or, at least, that's how I felt when I met these two amazing people for the first time last Fall at Rossland's Alpine Grind Cafe.
We did their engagement session this past February, and had a great time wading through the (nearly) waist deep snow. They brought sleds and their adorable rescue dog Cinder along because that's the sort of people they are; fun loving, gregarious, and quick to laugh. I had such a blast with them at their engagement session, and immediately started looking forward to their wedding, which they described as going to be "silly, fun, interactive, and heartfelt with many non-traditional elements". Silly, fun, and interactive it was! The Ram's Head Inn played host to both the ceremony and reception. After their short-but-sweet ceremony, guests were invite to participate in lawn games, basketball, tables set up with various card games, and even laser tag in the forest! All this while nibbling on never ending plates piled high with gorgeous fruits, vegetables, and cheese, and sipping beer, cider, and huckleberry mojitos (yes, I said huckleberry mojitos!) The bride, groom, and their gorgeous wedding party opted to do portraits before the ceremony, so that nothing would pull them away from enjoying their party. I love when couples aren't afraid to break with tradition and do this because, the truth is, weddings are expensive and nobody deserves to indulge in the merriment quite as much as the couple themselves. It's so great to see a couple be able to roll straight from their ceremony and into a big party with their nearest-and-dearest without having to be taken away for an hour or two for portraits. When Danika announced, rather casually, they they had an inflatable t-rex costume that they'd like to incorporate into a few photos I almost fell over. Could this couple get any cooler?! For dinner, guests were treated to a mediterranean inspired feast provided by the amazing crew at Premier Chef Services. Afterwards the family matriarchs sliced up and served a mouth-watering array of pies provided by local chocolate visionaries, Mountain Nugget Chocolate Company. Big shout out to Danika, Troy, and their amazing crew of family and friends who made myself and my second shooter, Jesse, feel so welcome. You all are one in a million! |
