I first met Patricia almost 10 years ago online. She and I both kept blogs on the (then popular) blogging site Livejournal.com. I am not sure how our paths crossed exactly, but likely we we had a mutual friend, or were in a community/group together. Over the years we formed an online friendship, which blossomed into a real-world friendship whenever we were fortunate enough to have our paths cross geographically (which hasn't been often, but like the best online friendships, we never depended on much 'real life' interaction). We've laughed over dinner in Disneyland, and even a pint in Ireland. I am so fortunate to have such rich friendships with incredible women scattered all over the globe.
When Patricia and Thomas got engaged, I immediately knew that I had to shoot her wedding. Not only was she getting married in gorgeous Estes Park, Colorado... but I just knew that this was going to be a wedding full of joy and laughter. How could it not with a bride like Tricia, who is one of the most outgoing, hilarious, and sociable people that I have ever met?
Well. I was right. But it didn't work out quite as expected.
You see, on Patricia and Thomas' wedding day it rained. It rained the days before their wedding, and it rained more or less all day on the day of their wedding. In fact, at one point it threatened to rain so hard that her venue warned that they may need to relocate her outdoor ceremony (to an indoor chapel) because the road to the ceremony location might have become impassable, and the risk of lightening harming guests may have been too high (!!!)
Do you know what Tricia said upon receiving this devastating news? She shrugged those gorgeous shoulders, sat back down in front of her makeup artist, and said, "Well. As long as I end up married at the end of the day, I don't really care where it happens."
And then by some small miracle, the torrential downpour, & thunder & lightening that we were all bracing ourselves for didn't happen. Instead it just rained. Drizzled, really. All day. It was bothersome, sure... But it didn't once stop my beautiful friend from smiling, and it didn't once quiet the cheers, or dull the brightness of her 12 person wedding party. Not once. It was truly a great day; and as expected it was full to the absolute brim with joy and laughter.
Congratulations to Patricia and Thomas. May our paths cross again very, very soon.
(I shot this wedding in tandem with Dawn Honsky Photography. I want to give a shout out to her for being so lovely to work with and lending her own incredible vision to Patricia & Thomas' rainy day 'do)
